Eczema is a form of dermatitis where inflammation of epidermis occurs. The exact cause of eczema is not known. Although it is activated by the immune system and is related to allergic reactions, it is not the same as other allergic reactions. In Ayurveda, the disease is described by the name “Vicharchika.”

Eczema is a condition in which patches of skin become inflamed, itchy, cracked, and rough. Some types can also cause blisters. It’s a common skin condition that isn’t contagious. It is also called atopic dermatitis

In the word “dermatitis,” “derm” means “skin” and “itis” means “inflammation.” The word as a whole means “inflammation of the skin.” “Eczema” originates from the Greek word “ekzein” which means to “boil over” or “break out.”

The first signs of eczema are itchiness and redness. Eczema can show up anywhere on the skin. In teens and adults, it’s typically found on hands, neck, inner elbows, ankles, knees, and feet and around the eyes.
